Thanks for the explanation of Moor/Moorish and its descriptive inadequacy. Also the history of Moorish architecture from its origins through the Mudejar variations.

Thank you for reading!

The term 'Moorish' definitely has its issues, but it's become so established in architectural scholarship that avoiding it just creates more confusion.

Wow so interesting! I love architecture and learning about all the intention that goes behind each design.

Been waiting for this one :) also since we're almost on topic, I'd recommend you check out the Jami-Ul Alfar Mosque in Colombo, Sri Lanka! (also known as the Colombo Red Mosque)

Thank you for waiting, I hope you enjoyed reading!

And I just looked up the Jami-Ul Alfar Mosque, that Indo-Saracenic style with the red and white stripes is so distinctive and gorgeous. Really love a unique mosque.

Love this! Understanding the terminologies really helps one appreciate and admire what they're actually looking at.

Thank you as it reminded me of a very good trip I made a few years ago, to Cordoba, Seville and Ronda. It was stunning….

Three incredible cities to visit, each one showcases different layers of this architectural history. Glad the essay brought back good memories!
